As of this past season, the Niles Notre Dame College Prep wrestling program has grown to over 80 young men with the expectation of over 50 coming into the grade school program next year. The program has had to travel to different locations to accommodate its growth. For seven years, the team has been renting out space commuting every day to Maryville Academy in Des Plaines until this past season where they hunkered down in the bank of a local CrossFit gym. Unfortunately, the most recent location is going in a different direction and will not be able to accommodate the team any further which leaves the program without a facility for the upcoming season, in addition, construction at the high school for a new wrestling room or an expansion is also not an option.
As a Notre Dame alum and a former wrestler, David Gurdak (’91) remembers what it was like to practice on the gym stage, the cafeteria and eventually in a designated classroom in the basement. Unfortunately, 30 years later, today’s wrestling team is facing the same challenges. Gurdak Group, Ltd. is proud to support the Notre Dame College Prep Wrestling Club, a non-profit organization, and their Go Fund Me campaign to build out a facility in the heart of Edison Park. Former Notre Dame College Prep alumni and wrestler Ryan Nallen (’06) has created the campaign on behalf of Augie Genovisi and Michael Rosengrant. The dimensions at the new facility offer the ability to house three full size wrestling mats, work out equipment, an office space, parking lot and even a waiting room for parents.
All donations raised will go towards the build-out, operating costs and maintenance for the facility and with this new investment, the year-round training center for the Notre Dame College Prep club and high school wrestling teams. Furthermore, it will be the host location for Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco-Roman training camps with NCAA & Olympic-level clinicians with the goal of providing elite year-round training opportunities to the community.
Gurdak Group, Ltd. encourages you to help make this dream come true and provide the kids with a place to train for this upcoming (and subsequent) seasons going forward. With your help, we can take them from the basement of the school to having their own training facility.
